In the “Wild Ape” slot game, iSoftBet takes players on an exciting adventure through the lush rainforests of Africa. It has nothing to do with the classic Warner Bros. short about a drunken stork who loses his baby monkey and Bugs Bunny who picks him up by mistake and raises him amidst a herd of gorillas. However, just like in the homonymous animated film, the monkeys are the protagonists of the slot, but instead of trying to escape them like Bugs Bunny, you will definitely want to meet one or two, because when a bunch of monkeys appear on your screen, you know great victories are ahead.
Wild Ape: An Overview of the Game
Loading the game takes players to a standard 5×3 grid with 20 paylines. In the background, a peaceful pond surrounded by dense African jungles provides the backdrop. However, in terms of design, there is nothing exceptional except that it does not really stand out among other iSoftBet slots. At first glance, one could not say that iSoftBet is the studio behind Wild Ape, considering its portfolio full of visual masterpieces. This slot is unfortunately far from the latest creations of the developer and presents simple and slightly old-fashioned graphics.
When we get to the stats, it’s clear that Wild Ape is a special case. As in all other iSoftBet slots, you can expect solid math here. Players enter, setting their bets between $0.2 and $20 per spin. RTP is slightly above average at 96.01%, and volatility is medium. However, do not expect to be overwhelmed with winnings, as the maximum potential does not even reach 1000 times the bet, which is disappointing.
The symbol collection consists of 9 regular symbols, divided into highs and lows. On the bottom side we have the royal standards from A to 10, while the higher value symbols include ferocious toucans, lemurs, crocodiles and gorillas, in ascending order of value. To count the winnings, you must line up at least 3 copies of the same symbol, starting with the leftmost reel, while for crocodiles and monkeys, only 2 are enough. Individual values are moderate, with minimum bets from 2.5 to 10 for 5 unique combinations and bonuses from 12.5 to 25.
Wild Ape: Check Out the Bonus Features
Wild Ape relies heavily on Wild symbols, which are the key to success in this game. In addition to the regular wilds available both during the base game and the bonus game, you will receive a large number of them during the spins free spins and re-spins, as described below.
Re-spins
When three full stacks of the Ape symbol land side by side during the main game, they merge into a single colossal Gorilla symbol and deliver three Wild Ape re-spins. The massive monkey figure will then smash the reels to expand the grid by adding an extra row, also increasing the number of paylines to 40. Note that the colossal symbol will not be in play and will disappear from the reels once all preparations have been completed , dealing all these 9 Wild symbols on the reels. During the Wild Ape Respins feature, all monkey symbols become wilds and replace all other regular symbols.
When three Scatter symbols appear on reels 1, 3 and 5, the free spins feature is activated. Before starting the bonus game with free spins, players are taken to the bonus wheel to determine the number of spins triggered as well as the number of Wild symbols added to the reels during this feature. You can win up to 50 free spins and 50 Wild symbols.
The bonus game works in the same way as the Wild Ape Respins feature, or to be more precise, it is also played on the extended 5×4 grid with 40 paylines. Nothing changes, except for a myriad of additional jokers and a larger grid. It is also not possible to retrigger the free spins feature.
Well, Wild Ape is definitely different from iSoftBet. With all those weird stats and charts that leave something to be desired, it’s not that wild in the end. Both bonus features are fun, however, the problem is that they work largely the same. Why not leave that 3×3 wild symbol in the Wild Ape Respins or at least leave those reels merged until the end of the bonus game? Instead, we get a few wilds scattered across the grid, which may or may not appear at the end of the day. As for the free spins, they are nothing but an extended version of the Wild Ape Respins feature. Taking all this into account, add the low potential maximum of 1000 times the bet, and you’ll probably have the least impressive slot you’ve come across.
